the voyage that ended

So today I finished watching Voyager. Which is not to imply I watched ALL of Voyager. I probably watched at least half the episodes, possibly more. I skipped a lot honestly.

I feel like I've seen some people hate on the finale, which is somewhat confusing? It wasn't a great finale but it sort of stayed true to the characters/feel of the show I thought. It didn't erase shit or kill unnecessarily or go totally ridiculous. (Okay except for the fucking Chakotay/Seven stuff. What the fuck show. Nobody cares about a relationship you made up and forced on the audience in like two total episodes {skipped the first one about them} so nobody really cares if that's a motivation for Admiral Janeway. Stupid show!)

Overall I found the show mostly mediocre. I could enjoy some episodes, but I only felt invested in the characters infrequently. Most of the time it felt like the show itself wasn't that invested in the characters sadly. Or the plots really. This all could have been a result of the fact that I was watching it many years after it aired and also vaguely comparing it to DS9 in my mind. My feelings on it could potentially be very different if I had grown up watching this show more (which I at least did somewhat with DS9, at least more than any other Trek). I do have a vague investment in the Janeway/Seven ship, which the show seemed to tease or at least try to reframe. (Seriously though if they wanted to hook Seven up with some other dude, why Chakotay??! I don't think they even ever looked at each other before this shit. Such a mess show.)

I tried to watch a TNG episode today too. It was an early one but one I had heard of vaguely. Such bizarre looking graphics. Also so freaking slow, and why is there no music in that show!! I sort of notice the music less when it's there then when it's not. I should probably watch more of it just for the hell of it (because I've rewatcehd DS9 episodes too many times) but I'm really not feeling it yet.
