i suck at subject lines
I almost sort of understand why people start writing fanfiction now. The thing is, I've not read much fanfic in fandoms other than Sherlock. So when I try to find fanfic for smaller fandoms (Parks and Recreation, Pretty Little Liars, Community) I am always surprised at how little there is in comparison. So I understand finding the lack of fic in a fandom so disappointing that it drives people to write their own.
No this does not mean I'm going to attempt to write fanfic. Because I still have NO desire at all to attempt writing. But I just understand why people feel the desire to for some fandoms now.
And unrelated: I just read that Ben Browder is going to be on (at least one? episode of) Doctor Who this season. While I have in the past loved the new Doctor Who, I do not have good feelings about the last two seasons (or Moffat), so the only way I really feel excited about this is the opportunity to get to see Ben Browder on tv once again.

As for fanfic, it's funny, I write it, but I don't read it as often, especially now that I discovered Podfic, and I can listen to it. But I've run out of my fandoms. I need to find the BSG crossover and see who it was with. There's a rather brilliant DW/Firefly crossover that was pulled off very well. I do believe there was recently one for Community posted in Amplification, but it was a Supernatural crossover.
I just finished a monster Doctor/Donna fic of mostly humor, and have two more due in the HP fandom for fests. I say, stay out of writing, it just leads to stress, headaches, crying and slamming computers, and bitching endlessly at your flist.
Sorry for babbling!
Oh, there's lots of Sherlock fic at Amplification too! http://amplificathon.dreamwidth.org/

I don't read crossovers that much, but I did stumble across a BSG/Firefly crossover that I thought was well done (don't know if it's in podfic form or not though).
I've never actually listened to a podfic, I don't know if I would like it or not really. It seems like they would be akward to listen to, but maybe that's just me. I'll check out that Doctor/Donna one though, because that sounds like fun!
Yeah writing fic has no appeal to me usually, it looks like way too much work, and it just doesn't seem like something I'd be any good at, with the way my mind works. I'll just stick to my average photoshop skills instead :)

Writing only seems to be easy when you have an idea and the plot unfolds in your head. I've been known to write a whole 3 part fic in a day, other days, can't write a word.
When I get my Doctor/Donna fic back from my beta, I'll be posting it. It was supposed to be a funny fixit gen fic, and for the the most part it is. There was a bit of sex at the very end, but Donna is still Donna, not a in wuv like his other companions. Ultimately, it's still just friends!
