Not ready to start advertising it yet, but if anyone wants to take a look and let me know if anything doesn't makes sense, needs work on, etc, I'd appreciate it.
Maybe an introductory paragraph (on your Profile page), explaining what a LIM community is? Just in case you snag some Farscape fans that aren't familiar with that kind of community?
If you want to affiliate with other comms, decide how you want to do it. One way I've seen it done is to put a list of affiliates on your profile page, and then a journal entry that says "Interested in affiliating? Let us know here!" and then link to that entry from the Profile page. There may be other ways of doing affiliates, but that's the one I'm most familiar with (from my comm, castlelostfound, you can see what I did there.)
Add Interests (to your Profile), it will make your comm easier to find.
That's all I could think of off hand, your rules seem pretty solid - although I'm not familiar with LIM comms!
I hope this doesn't come across as too critical; I tend to respond a little too eagerly to requests for constructive criticism. You've taken the important first steps of creating a comm. I know how nerve-wracking something like this is and I'm sure your comm will do splendidly!
That's a good idea. I'm gonna try to put a better introduction on there.
Also I'm sort of not sure what the deal is with affiliating? Like I sort of don't get the point. Is it just a way to sort of advertise your comm on other comms?
I'm definitely going to add interests and start promoting it soon once I'm a bit happier with it and I figure out a few more things.
And your advice is very helpful and exactly what I was looking for, so thank you :) There's so many little things to pay attention to that it's very useful to hear from someone else who runs a comm!
Yeah, unless I have it all wrong (always possible!), affiliating is just another form of advertising. So your comm, for example, might affiliate with other Farscape comms, or with other LIMS comms, and people visiting comms they know about from one or the other can find out about your comm.
Sometimes there will be a co-advertising policy, like you can only advertise your comm if you're an affiliate.
