I only started making icons in 2010, so I've not had much time to improve drastically. But I'm doing this anyway because I might be amused by it. Also because I'm putting off actual icon making I should be doing now!
I started making icons in Queer as Folk fandom thanks to insanejournal. I haven't been over there in about a year though, but it holds some of my beginning icon attempts.

I had to put lyrics on an icon for a challenge. I didn't generally put text on icons unless it was specified for the challenges I was doing.

ICON #3: It Doesn't Matter What It Says

The Unreadable Font Icon
This was for a tiny text challenge. I didn't know how to do it (not saying I do now) so I just wrote random shit and made the text super tiny.

I have a lot of these actually, but I think I used a number of textures on this one.

Not sure if this is really a trend one, but I was trying to do a fancy crop I think. It didn't work.

These aren't all necessarily my most recent, but they're ones I've done somewhat recently that I actually like. A lot of my recent icons suck almost as much as those older ones do. I'm a slow learner I guess :)

It took me like 5 years of regular icon making before I started turning icons out that look good more often than bad, as opposed to bad more often than good, lol. But you make some great icons! I have a couple by you that I love the hell out of and have survived a couple different icon purges. <3 I have to admit I lol'd at the trendwhore icon because I wasn't sure at first what was even going on in that, haha.

I think this exercise is good to help remind us of how far we've come which gives us encouragement to keep going! :D

Aw thanks. I seem to be really hit or miss with icons. I randomly come out with a few awesome ones among a sea of medicore-ish ones.

It was fun to do; it was nice to see the bits of improvement I've actually made!

Though I have made a few with online editing sites, that are... well... paint might have been a better option?

I'm LMAO at Severe Texture Abuse...but I usually hate textures...I hate anything that makes an already tiny (to my eyes) image even harder to see. So really heavy textures, levels, some text, some blends...

Thanks for sharing your shitty icons, they made me smile, and I think you do way more than a few awesome ones! I've only been iconning since last year too...my first ones were pretty awful as well. I didn't have the correct aspect ratio for my caps so everyone was squashed. In the dark, because I was afraid to make them too bright.

I'm snurching the Nina and Olivia icons. Will credit :)

Hee. I have a lot of older icons that I went texture crazy on, but I think I've learned how to use them a little better now :)

Your icons are really gorgeous now. Aspect ratio is one thing that drives me nuts when people mess it up in icons, because once you see it, you can't ignore it. But everything I've seen from you has been lovely lately. Glad you liked some of the newer ones I've made!

I have to do this just to show off some of the truly heinous icons I have made. I'm in the middle of a stupendous iconning block (that sound so pretentious!) and looking back at old ones has made me feel so much better! THANK YOU!
