So in my large chunk of free time this evening I decided somewhat randomly to try watching the BBC series Sherlock. (Instead of actually doing anything remotely productive of course.) After the first episode I've found it surprisingly good. I already knew I liked Martin Freeman thanks to my deep love of The Office UK. I found the other dude to be much more interesting than I expected however.
And now I'm compelled to attempt to watch the rest of it (all two other episodes) of it tonight! Dammit!

I discovered "Sherlock" a couple months ago, and I really enjoy it. I love the nods to the original stories side-by-side with the modern practicalities.

Ah, see, I love that sort of thing.

If you're ever inclined to watch some that are fairly true to the original stories, check out the Jeremy Brett BBC series that was done ... around fifteen years ago?

So here's a bit of insight that you may enjoy ...

Remember the bit in "A Study in Pink", where the cops find the dying message and the one guy is all smugly "it means revenge in German"? And Holmes is all "Pfft! It's Rachel, obviously. Makes more sense than someone blathering about revenge in German."

So in the original "A Study in Scarlet", the cops are all "we need to look for someone named Rachel!" And Holmes is all "Pfft! It means revenge in German. You won't find a Rachel."

That really, really amused me for some reason.

Yeah, the movie was ... not quality entertainment.

As to the series, if you're not getting every little nod and wink, it doesn't really matter as long as you're enjoying it! I'm not such a Holmes fan that I'm confident that I'm catching them all either.

Sherlock! (I, um, still have to watch the last half of episode three. I keep forgetting. Maybe this weekend!) I was really impressed by how well it worked in modern day England. And it finally got me around to reading the original stories, which are quite good.

Didn't I mention this to you months ago when I heard an interview on NPR? Or was that another show? I'm glad you find it entertaining.
