don't drink and drive

My initial, streaming thoughts on the second to last episode of Battlestar Galactica. SPOILERS WITHIN

Flashbacks. Sort of confusing at first, why do this now when the show is OVER?? But anyways. I liked the Roslin ones. Especially the ones with her family. The Adama one was sort of short and I didn't really get the significance of it. Anything with Starbuck is sort of default awesome in my book, so that one was okay. The Anders one...well that one felt like a bit of retconning. Since it is pretty ridiculous for us to believe that Sam would ever want to be hooked up to a ship and have that sort of life. Maybe he would want to experience it temporarily, but this is a pretty bad ending for his character and one that I am not satisfied with at all. And the Lee flashback with the drunkenness and the bird? WTF. That was a huge waste of time in my opinion. Oh yeah, I forgot about Baltar's flashbacks. They were good too, I liked the bits with Caprica Six, but was slightly annoyed at their insistance to not give her a regular name (though I suppose it is sort of moot at this point).

I know I missed parts of the episode during discussions we were having, so I may not have caught everything. I am sort of disappointed at the lack of momentum in this episode but I liked it anyway.

Chief. Finally they show us the fall out from what happened two weeks ago, but hey, by the end of the episode everyone is free as long as they're wiling to go on a potential suicide mission. Anyway, his bitterness seemed perhaps valid but also seemed off at the same time. I don't think he is really such a machine hater. If he was, why would he volunteer to go try to save Hera (besides the fact that he is a "good guy" and basically had to, and perhaps is okay with death at this point). And if they hook him up with Tori at the end I will be very disgusted and disappointed.
Baltar. Can't say I'm surprised he didn't volunteer for the suicide mission. Surely he saw that he was the only one left that wasn't going that had any sort of political power. I don't really remember what Head!Six was saying to him.....Also I suspect that we may have gotten all the information we're going to get about the Head characters. And Baltar asking for his followers to have a seat on the quorum....Are they self contained or are they from other ships? I would think they would just fall under the jurisdiction of the captain of whatever ship they are on, so I was vaguely confused about that.
Roslin. Honestly I thought she would be dead by now, but I am not disappointed that they are dragging out her likely death till the last episode. I will probably cry and one of the few moments in this episode where I felt even close to tears is when she hobbled out to join everyone in the volunteer mission.
Adama. While I like that he is going to try and rescure Hera, I kinda sorta don't get it at the same time. Is that bad? I hope they explain her significance more in the last episode, because just being a symbol of the races merging is not enough for me to understand risking so many peoples life on.
Starbuck. Well she is at least trying to figure something out, although I wouldn't be surprised again if we didn't learn much more truth about her either. After waiting this long I've essentially given up on that information. I can't remember what else she did this episode, but I did like her scene with Adama.

Oh yeah, even though I don't even know if he had any lines in this episode, Doc Cottle is still very, very awesome
AND....is Leoben going to be on this show ever again or not? That is some hella stupidity not having him on for the last like 4 episodes.
