ranting about the new Doctor Who actor

So I just woke up today, and remembered I could find out who the next actor to play Doctor Who was. It was just announced today. Well, HE SUCKS. I am highly disappointed. Okay, I don't know how much he sucks given I've seen one picture of the dude. But it is not a lot of the other cooler people it could have been (like Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is awesome). Blah. I am highly disappointed. The new Doctor is a younger dude than any of the past doctors, and whiter than white. Blah! I actually thought it was possible they would do something interesting with this and make it either an older man, or a POC. I pretty much figured it was impossible they would cast a woman as the new Doctor. But this? This is beyond cliche. This is so disappointing. This does not leave me with any hope regarding the next series of DW.

Ok, I think you might be being a little harsh. Beyond cliche?

That being said, he does look like a dork. But I didn't like David Tennant at all early on either.

I'm not really trying to be harsh on the actor. He will probably be fine eventually. And he's got a lucky break, good for him.
But yeah I am being harsh on the decision/decision makers. I think their choice is very disappointing. That doesn't mean this actor won't work out anyway.

I think casting decisions are one which the audience should really have the least influence on ahead of time. Its important to have a strong image of the character you want to create and find an actor who fits that image. There are plenty of ways to make The Doctor uncliched and interesting without making him a POC (I don't know what that is btw).

I don't have a lot of strong reasons to trust the Doctor Who writers, but I would rather have a casting decision that I hate early and love later than the opposite.

I agree that I would also prefer to have a casting decision that is bad at first, and turns out well. And there's no reason to think this isn't such a thing.
A POC is a person of color. There were lots of rumors that it would be Joseph Patterson (who is black). I am just sort of disappointed that they went for a younger, white male doctor. I think it would have been a good decision to chose a black doctor. That's just my opinion though.
And I am just being cynical right now, in thinking that an even younger Doctor does not, in my opinion, immediately create more interesting situations for the Doctor. And like you, I don't have a lot of reasons to really trust them to do quite the right thing. But I will watch it anyway. It's just not a decision I would have preferred.
Although....if they bring Donna back, I may be a little more okay ;)

An extended interview with the actor in question regarding his casting as Teh Doctorz.

Note the finger wiggles early on. Overall the actor's energy is really appealing to me. I definitely think I'm starting to see why they picked him.

Just imagine him saying "Wibbly wobbly timey wimey."

Lets just hope they do something with his hair...
