i am rereading DUNE for the who knows what time. currently I am in the third book of the series, and I rewatched the second miniseries as well. it was very easy for me to see all the ways they changed the plot, and characters and timeline (to an extent) in the miniseries as related to the third book. It was sort of shocking for me to realize how much they changed it and how drastically they simplified so much of it. Well, they really HAVE to simplify it because it is really complicated and it would be impossible to translate it all to screen. But the extent they simplify some of the characters actions, transformations, and inner thoughts is suprising to me. Anyway, the Dune series by Frank Herbert is frelling awesome. Ive read it so many times, seen the movies numerous times, and I'm still learning shit about it. That does not necessarily mean it is all that complicated and interesting..it may simply mean that I'm just very dumb and unobservant. Well either way, the series holds up for repeated readings. And you know what, out of the six books, I've only even read four so far! I keep rereading the first ones to get up to the next one. So maybe this time I'll plunge into the 5th book...if I can figure out what the hell happened in the fourth book. If anyone has an interest in DUNE and wants to chat with me about it, please let me know! I even had to upload a new icon (made by someone talented) to display my current (and recurring) Dune immersion.
