Dollhouse Thoughts, or something like that
Just watched the latest episode of Dollhouse, and wow am I confused! I've written up some of my rambling thoughts about the episode.
Random reactions and unstructured thoughts:
I think they pretty much had every main character of significance in this episode.
As soon as Claire started talking to Bennett I was a little scared, knowing how much Claire hates Topher. I was only slightly surprised that she shot Bennett in the head as soon as Topher walked it. I mean, I kind of expected her to do something to her or Topher, and I was waiting for it the whole time, but the bullet to the brain was a bit of a shock.
Nice use of an Epitaph One scene between Boyd and Claire added in there; I liked that it was the exact scene and it fit well into the context (though I was slightly distracted that Amy Acker's hair was a little different in the scene, but not much).
As soon as Boyd came back into the room at the end when Echo was being uploaded with Caroline it put the seed in my head that he was the head of Rossum. When Caroline walks into the room and sees that other dude (Clive 2.0?) I was like, wtf who the hell is that dude; I so thought it was going to be Boyd. And then it was!!!!!
And then of course I start thinking about it...Hmmmm.....SoHelo Paul said that someone had gotten to Claire to make her shoot Bennett (and whatever else she might have done?). At first I thought well, yeah, Boyd is the head of Rossum (which just sounds so ridiculous to say) and he has been hanging out with Claire for a while now, so he obviously got to her. But that doesn't make any sense! Because why would Boyd want Claire to kill Bennett when she was trying to restore Caroline, which seems to be what Boyd wanted at the end there. Was it because he didn't want Bennett to have a chance to torture Caroline (like Echo had offered her)? I'm not sure he even knew about that, or if he was gone by the time Caroline told her that...I forget. Also, he could have just had Bennett killed after she restores Caroline, which would have made things way simpler. Also. This makes no sense. Boyd obviously wasn't part of the baddies who came into the Dollhouse at the end, seeing as how he killed one of them, and he seems to want Caroline back. So how many sides are there to this fight?
Thank god they gave a reason for why Echo/Caroline is so special, because it was sort of annoying why everyone was so in love with her for what seemed like no real reason. So let me try to get this straight....Boyd created Echo to be special and, what? Take down the Dollhouse...which he, um, created...? Or was he just using her to run an experiment and see if they could hold multiple consciousnesses in one body, and have them merge and become a person like Echo did? That's fine, but if that's all there is to it, things have obviously gone a much different direction.
They've been trying to make Topher slightly more likeable? sympathetic? I dunno; I hated Topher for a long time, but they've made him be less of a gross asshat so I don't hate him as much anymore. Plus they are showing more and more of what makes him go crazy in Epitaph One, which of course makes him even more sympathetic.
Um, was I the only one that thought some of the scenes with Caroline and Bennett were sort of slashy?and kind of liked it.
They brought back Mellie, just so she would trust Paul? Ok, makes sense but is still sort of disturbing because pretty much everyone else in the Dollhouse gets their original selves restored except for November. Granted it would have taken some time to inform her and convince Madeline to go along with everything, at least she would be herself.
OH. I'm totally okay with them taking away Paul's creepy, disturbing lusty "love" obsession with Caroline/Echo. I really can't say I like Paul too much in general, but he's often most tolerable when he's with November (who I do love) or when he's not being skeevy about Echo. So that little plot point got rid of the significant grossness of Paul's character.
Plus there was even some stuff with Dominic and Sierra and Victor, although their scenes were very minor. And they gave Ivy a few good scenes and a decent resolution (though running away isn't the best, at least she gets to live!)
